Re: Feature: How Nintendo Switch Is Being Used By A New Generation Of Therapists

bigbankhank

I'm not seeing it. I'm all for gaming, however I don't think playing (Switch or other system's) games can really be a substitute for professional therapy. Just become some therapist(s) said during Covid: "Go play your Switch" to one of his/her clients does not make it a realistic, pragmatic, or alternative substitute to the real work of therapeutically processing real-life and trauma issues for which therapy is designed to address.

Framerate issues continue to plague the Switch with many new and Q3 or Q4 2020 releases. The Switch is just outdated hardware now that really can't keep up with modern game engines. Time is coming quite soon to put this hardware platform out to the pasture because of many great games that aren't playable because of dropped framerate and general performance issues.

Re: Review: Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! - A Cute And Absolutely Horrifying Dating Sim

Picked this up and played it through multiple times. Not sure what all the fuss is about. There are really no horror elements. It follows other VN type games (just hammer the A button). And, certainly isn't breaking any fourth wall or meta anything. The female characters are incredibly superficial, choices are obvious, there really isn't any twist to anything, and experienced gamers can see the endings coming from the start. Even more so, the endings feel quite forced. Overall, the art style and music are poppy and fit the title; however, the writing and dialogue is disappointing and quite sloppy.

The art direction and animation style on this look like a terrible monochrome 4 color Apple ][ basic programmed game. The pixelated style makes me want to pour J&J No Tears in my eyes because it is so horrid. It looks and feels worse than when I was playing disk jockey with 5.25" disks while waiting for the next part of my Zork adventure to load.

Re: Review: Hades - A Heavenly Trip Into Hell That's Utterly Essential For All Switch Owners

Picked this up last week. Spent about 10 hours as a casual gamer playing and having to restart after each death. This is definitely NOT a 10/10, in my opinion. As a top-down isometric action dungeon crawler with reasonable gameplay and unique art style, I wouldn only give this a 7/10 at the most. Anything over this feels like it is just sponsored or biased. Hades has a godmode, but I am trying to avoid using that. Overall the monotony after hours of death makes it feel quite dated. The gameplay and mechanics seem to reduce the replayability each round, meaning the fun factor is steadily decreasing by about every 15 minutes because of this. Eventually it feels like you will just get bored of this and its approach to gameplay. Just put it down and not really care about playing again after to 1500th death.

Re: Review: A Short Hike - A Landmark Game For All Ages

Just finished A Short Hike. Everything about it is good. Controls, frame rate, art style, music, NPC interaction are all solid. There are some areas where the camera is clunky or can hinder progress (like the windy tunnel on the climb up). However, it does feel lacking. It reminded me a lot of Animal Crossing, or felt like it could be a mini-game FROM Animal Crossing. Really, it is what you make it: an enjoyable few sessions of a creatively assembled game. After reaching the top, I've run through again 4 times focusing now on exploration. There are many books and crannies to explore and seek out. In the end, expect 10-15 hours of gameplay which includes multiple playthroughs.

Re: Review: Fitness Boxing - Rhythm Trappings Help This Limber Wii Fit Successor Land Its Punches

I picked this up some weeks back and have played it daily since then. I'd like to comment that all trainers, male or female, are just lame. No difference in dialogue; personalitirs are horrid. Gameplay is weakened by joycons incorrectly registering a punch, such as when you twist but have yet to throw it for a hook or uppercut. This also happens on repeated jabs such as when there is three in a row. Finally, for the US release, why do I have to enter weight and height in metric units?! WTF?!? This is just lazy programming.
