Re: Surprise! System Shock Is The Latest Pinball M & FX DLC Table

Did they ever fix Pinball FX's performance issues? I remember that being a step down from Pinball FX 3 when it launched, but they said that they'd work on it more to bring it up to snuff.

I periodically google around Reddit to get a feel from people for how patches and updates are going on it, and I haven't yet been satisfied that the new FX is even yet in as good of a state as the old FX3 yet...

I would have bought loads of tables already...

For me this week:

  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong
  • PlateUp!
  • Spirt Hunter: Death Mark II <--- this has CRAZY good reviews on MetaCritic so far

I was very interested in Ys, but then I learned that all the EGGCONSOLE games are Japanese ONLY! (at least almost entirely).

I definitely wouldn't want to play a text-heavy RPG on them, but I will still probably pick up their action titles (I definitely had Thexder back in the day).

Tomb Raider as long as it turns out to be a good port.
Arzette is a hilarious concept (and I would buy the April Fool's Nintendo CD-i games as a curio) but this has to actually turn out to be fun.
Arcade Archives SILK WORM and its helicopter and jeep co-op sounds fun.

Yes. Let's say Company "A" has 100 accountants. And company "B" has 100 accountants. They merge. Management calculates that the new company can be handled by 120 accountants. 80 are fired. Now do that with all the other positions and it's straight profits for shareholders, and management, as everyone is pointing out.

It's kind of like that bit in the movie "Office Space", where each worker is interviewed about "exactly what is it you do here?"

On the entrepreneur game show "Shark Tank" tonight, there was a company who makes customized songs to be loaded into teddy bears to sing to kids. The company employs about a dozen singer artists who compose and sing and play each song for the individual child's toy, using questionnaires from the parents to tailor each song specifically.

One of the investor "sharks" immediately said: "You can have A.I. do that right now for free!"

  • Another Code: Recollection wasn't well-received by critics on initial release, or it seems again now, but in 2011 AdventureGamers ranked it the #60 best Adventure Game of All-Time.
  • The original Turnip Boy is rated "Overwhelmingly Positive" by users on Steam, the highest possible rating. Turnip Boy Robs A Bank is supposed to have a day one patch, so I will be pulling the trigger on that one as well as soon as Switch performance is confirmed.
  • Already have Fuga: Melodies of Steel 1 & 2
  • The Pedestrian had solid reviews when it was released on other platforms a few years ago. It is also rated "Overwhelmingly Positive* by users on Steam, the highest possible rating.

Re: Konami Is Bringing Back Rocket Knight Adventures And Felix The Cat

MontyCircus

A while ago I googled for lists of the best Sega Genesis games. I looked for long lists each at least 50 games long, that were ranked. I assigned points based on rank and added them all up. I was left with 16 lists, 396 unique games and 1,465 total entries.

Rocket Knight Adventures ended up the #14 best Genesis game, and was the highest ranking Genesis game not yet on Switch (now that is Ranger X).

IGN ranked Sparkster the #87 best SNES game.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Nominated For D.I.C.E. Awards 'Game Of The Year'

  • COCOON
  • DAVE THE DIVER
  • Venba
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Disney Illusion Island
  • Fae Farm
  • Pocket Bravery

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Nominated For Another 'Game Of The Year' Award

MontyCircus

@Zyph

The other big ones I look forward to are the "Game Developers Choice Awards", "D.I.C.E. Awards" and "BAFTA Game Awards" (but they tend to skew to British companies). Part of the "Game Developers Conference" is the "Independent Games Festival", which is good for scouting some indie games.

IGN gave their top award to Tears of the Kingdom.
GameSpot gave theirs to Baldur's Gate 3.

Who cares what everyone is nagging about the weak hardware...

For the last couple of years, it has been noticed that even a lot of newer indie games are starting to chug, performance-wise, on Switch. So, imagine say, Hades 2 comes out, but reviews say it's not great on Switch. And Hollow Knight: Silksong comes out, but reviews say it's not great on Switch. And so on. "Better on other platforms". We're getting close to that point. So no, it's not just people wanting 4K/8K/120fps or whatever. It's that we might be losing our Nindies...

Re: Editorial: Happy New Year From Everyone Here At Nintendo Life

MontyCircus

I appreciate that NintendoLife is very often the first review up on MetaCritic.

From all of the release news articles, to the weekly eshop download roundup, to the selects of the best of the month, I feel like I never miss any Switch related thing just from daily visits to this website. It's really indispensable to me.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 30th)

MontyCircus

For a New Year's Eve party tomorrow night, I'm planning on playing all of the big Mario multiplayer games you all know.

But the "under the radar" one I'm looking to try is Tricky Towers. It looks like what if Tetris and Jenga had a baby.

And if everyone wants to chill out, we might try Untitled Goose Game.

Or if we feel less competitive and more working together, maybe Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime might do the trick.

Skull Island: Rise of Kong has 8 critic reviews across all platforms on Metacritic. I assume because PC (most reviewed) only had 5 it didn't count, even though it does have more than the 7 total reviews stated above.

2 were for Xbox Series and 1 was for PS5, none for Nintendo Switch, PS4 or Xbox One.

If it did count it would be the worst game on the list at a score of 23.

To qualify for MetaCritic's best or worst of the year list, a game has to have at least 7 reviews from a platform, not from all platforms combined. That's why the Kong one and Walking Dead: Destinies are missing.

Re: Nintendo Download: 14th December (North America)

Gaiares, Avenger, Psychic Storm and Granada are all included in the Telenet Shooting Collection. It's pricey, but probably better than getting them individually if they all appeal.

Gaiares ended up a Top 60 Genesis game.

Mine as well. Great for us old people! I happily recognized all 5 of the games.

But if any of the trailers revealed throughout the show, showed us anything, it showed that Nintendo really do need to up their game, hardware wise.

Yeah, the Switch has done well with Nintendo published games and indies. But as has been highlighted by others, now even new indie games are starting to chug on Switch...

Alan Wake 2 is Game Awards' #2 best game of the year for sure. It won more nominations then Zelda

Tears beat out Alan Wake for best Action/Adventure game.
Head-to-head. Defeated.

Alan Wake won some awards for certain aspects of its game, but when it came time to compare them directly, Tears came out on top.

And also on top of Spider-Man.
And also on top of Resident Evil.

For example: Imagine 4 racing games get nominated for "Game of the Year". And one of those games win "Best Racing Game". You can then infer/deduce/assume that it is the best overall game of the 4.
